Nvidia has unveiled a fresh gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated Half-Life 2 RTX remaster at the ongoing CES 2024 event. The official announcement for Half-Life 2 RTX was made at Gamescom in August 2023, where Nvidia confirmed a collaborative effort with members of the Half-Life 2 community to bring a remastered version of Valve’s iconic first-person shooter to life.
Half-Life 2 RTX is engineered to provide an exclusive gaming experience tailored for GeForce RTX users, incorporating several advanced Nvidia technologies such as Nvidia DLSS, Nvidia Reflex, and RTX IO. The development team relies on RTX Remix to enhance game visuals using AI tools and seamlessly integrate RTX with DLSS.
The recently released trailer showcases the remaster’s treatment of Ravenholm, the game’s spine-chilling location. By employing realistic lighting and shadow effects throughout the streets and buildings, the remaster intensifies the eerie atmosphere of this particular setting. Offering a glimpse into the gameplay, the trailer features Gordon Freeman battling zombies. A fixed release date is yet to be confirmed, as the project is still in its early developmental stages.
In addition to the trailer, Nvidia announced that RTX Remix will be accessible to the public in an open beta starting January 22. Initially exclusive to a select group of users with early access, the company expressed, “With NVIDIA RTX Remix, we’re empowering modders to remaster their beloved classic games, integrating full ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, modern physically-based rendering (PBR) assets, and generative AI texture tools—part of numerous generative AI unveilings at CES.”
Notably, Nvidia seized the CES 2024 platform to introduce their latest graphics card series, the GeForce RTX 40 Super Series, featuring three models: GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER.
