Keanu Reeves, renowned for his role in John Wick, is gearing up to lend his voice to the character Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The 59-year-old actor will be part of the voice cast for this highly anticipated film. Paramount unveiled the first glimpse of Sonic 3 at CinemaCon earlier this month.
In the revealed footage, Jim Carrey’s character, Dr. Robotnik, appears despondent following the events of the franchise’s second installment. Meanwhile, Shadow the Hedgehog brings a darker and edgier tone to the narrative, coupled with powers akin to those of traditional heroes.
The Sonic movie series commenced in 2020 with Sonic the Hedgehog, surprising audiences with its tremendous box-office success, amassing over $300 million. Despite the historical difficulty of translating video game franchises to the big screen, Sonic the Hedgehog broke records.
In 2022, Sonic 2 hit theaters, continuing the streak of success with over $400 million in global box office receipts.
Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves has solidified his status as one of Hollywood’s highest-paid and most commercially successful stars. Despite encountering commercial setbacks like many others, Reeves soared to new heights with his portrayal of John Wick in 2014, establishing himself as a formidable action star.
Reeves reprised his role in all subsequent John Wick installments, including Chapter 2 in 2017, Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019, and Chapter 4 in 2023, with the possibility of a fifth installment on the horizon. Additionally, Reeves is set to star in an upcoming action film alongside Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh.
His forthcoming portrayal as a guardian angel will undoubtedly showcase Reeves’ versatility beyond action-packed sequences.
Interestingly, the Canadian-born actor began his acting journey in 1984 with the TV series Hangin’ In, gradually earning widespread recognition through diverse roles over the years.
