Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman exchanged vows in 2012 and have since embraced parenthood with the arrival of two sons, Jack, aged 4, and Jonathan, aged 8. While Anne has found profound joy in nurturing her children, she recently disclosed a deeply traumatic experience she endured—a miscarriage in 2015. This revelation emerged during her involvement in “Grounded,” a six-week off-Broadway play.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Anne elaborated on an Instagram post where she proudly displayed her baby bump, stating:
“This isn’t a scene from a movie… All jokes aside, for those experiencing infertility struggles and challenges with conception, please understand that the journey to both of my pregnancies wasn’t straightforward.” Sending you extra love.”
Further questioned about the post, Anne shared:
“It’s not just a movie scene… But jokes aside, to all those battling infertility and struggling with conception, please understand that the journey to my pregnancies wasn’t straightforward. Sending you all extra love.”
Recalling the ordeal in a media interview, Anne Hathaway opened up:
“The initial attempt wasn’t successful for me. I was involved in a play where I had to portray childbirth every night on stage.”
Despite opting not to disclose her pregnancy loss, Anne confided in friends backstage, acknowledging, “It was too much to keep it in when I was onstage pretending everything was fine.”
She added:
“I felt compelled to remain authentic, or else… So, when things did take a turn for the better for me, especially after experiencing the other side—where you’re supposed to graciously applaud someone else’s success—I wanted my sisters to realize, ‘You don’t always have to pretend everything is fine. I see your challenges, and I support you.'”
Alongside her poignant journey, Anne shares the joys of motherhood with her two sons, Jack and Jonathan, alongside husband Adam Shulman. The accomplished actress, celebrated for her remarkable performances, prefers to shield her family from the spotlight.
In her professional pursuits, Anne Hathaway is gearing up to collaborate with Jessica Chastain in the psychological thriller film, “Mother’s Instinct.” Additionally, she is involved in adapting the romantic comedy, “The Idea of You,” based on a novel of the same name.
