Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain - A 3D Spinoff Celebration

Extremely OK Games and Maddy Make Games are gearing up for the launch of a Celeste spinoff. Notably, last week marked the sixth anniversary of Celeste, and in honor of this milestone, the developers are releasing a free 3D spinoff. Originally released on January 26, 2018, Celeste quickly gained popularity, receiving acclaim from both critics and gamers alike. Despite the Extremely OK Games team being engrossed in the development of another project, they decided to create this spinoff as a celebratory gesture.

Unveiled on January 29, Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is a complimentary 3D game crafted within a span of two weeks. Renowned as one of the finest platformer games to date, Celeste 64 allows fans to embark on the familiar journey once again, this time in a 3D environment. Players assume control of Madeline, the protagonist, as she endeavors to ascend Mount Celeste, mirroring the original game but with an added dimension. Negotiating jumps, climbs, and the evasion of spikes and various obstacles, players who have experienced Celeste 64 in its brief existence have found it to be an enjoyable addition to the franchise.

Presently, this Celeste spinoff is exclusively available on PC and Linux, with a MacOS version in the pipeline. The dedication of the development team is evident in the game, which boasts an original soundtrack composed by Lena Raine, known for her work on themes, including those for Minecraft. Notably, this isn’t the first time the developers have paid homage to Celeste; they released Celeste Classic 2 in 2021 to commemorate the game’s third anniversary. However, fans should not anticipate a direct sequel to Celeste, as co-founder Madeline Thorson has previously conveyed her lack of interest in pursuing one.
