Gill Catchpole, the spouse of renowned English songwriter and singer James Morrison, has passed away at the age of 45. The investigation and subsequent post-mortem examination have affirmed that Gill’s death resulted from suicide. According to reports, her husband James discovered her lifeless body at their residence in Whitminster, Gloucester, on January 5, 2024, after being alerted by a friend who faced challenges gaining entry to their home.
The couple had shared two decades together, with their initial meeting occurring when Gill rented a place in the house of James Morrison’s mother. Describing their early days as a fairytale, the singer once shared how he sought inspiration from Stevie Wonder’s songs in an attempt to impress her. James, aged 39, is renowned for hits like “You Give Me Something” and “Broken Strings” and earned the Brit Award for Best British Male in 2007. Gill Catchpole leaves behind 15-year-old Elsie and 5-year-old Ada Rose.
A family friend informed The Sun, “James is devastated and is receiving support from his family. He is maintaining composure for their girls but has requested privacy for the family to grieve in solitude.”
Gill Catchpole experienced a kidney transplant 14 months before she passed away. After a successful surgery, she posted on her Instagram, “Wow, how time flies! A year ago today, I was undergoing my kidney transplant, and now, a year later, despite numerous challenges and setbacks, I find myself the proud owner of my own business. At the beginning of this year, I could never have predicted this turn of events. To anyone facing difficulties, I want to assure you, based on my own journey, that things do improve over time.”
Emergency services were dispatched to their residence at 9:37 a.m. on Friday following the announcement of Gill’s passing. The coroner, confirming on Tuesday, stated that there were no suspicions, with pathologist Dr. Terry Jones confirming the cause of death as hanging after post-mortem scans.
