Joshua Jackson is poised for a television comeback with an upcoming Ryan Murphy series set to air on ABC. The network has greenlit ‘Dr. Odyssey,’ a new show in which Jackson not only stars but also serves as executive producer.
Scheduled for a fall premiere, ‘Dr. Odyssey’ is penned by Murphy alongside Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. The series is a joint production between Disney’s 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television, marking Murphy’s return to broadcast television after a hiatus of four years since the last production under his banner, ‘911: Lone Star,’ aired on Fox in early 2020.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, reports indicate that Jackson will portray the eponymous character, ‘Dr. Odyssey,’ a charismatic individual who seemingly possesses the ability to attain anything he desires.
Although the ensemble cast is yet to be revealed, speculation suggests that the show will unfold aboard a cruise ship.
Murphy, who struck a deal with Netflix in 2018, maintains several ongoing projects, including ‘911,’ which recently migrated to ABC from Fox, as well as FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Feud.’
Furthermore, Murphy’s co-writers Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, who have previously collaborated with him on projects such as ‘Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,’ are currently involved in other ventures with Murphy, including ‘Grotesquerie’ and a legal drama featuring Kim Kardashian for Hulu.
Interestingly, Jackson recently appeared in Paramount+’s ‘Fatal Attraction’ in 2023 and the Peacock Network’s ‘Dr. Death,’ where he portrayed American neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch, inspired by the eponymous podcast.
Among Jackson’s notable television credits are ‘Fringe,’ ‘The Affair,’ and ‘Dawson’s Creek.’ Additionally, he has been cast in Sony’s reboot of ‘The Karate Kid,’ alongside Jackie Chan, slated for release later this year.
