Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell, known for his roles in the acclaimed series Star Trek: Discovery and the blockbuster film Captain Marvel, has passed away at the age of 49 after a courageous five-year battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). His family confirmed his demise via social media.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram and X, they expressed, “For five and a half years, Ken faced the daunting challenges of ALS. Yet, in his truest form, he confronted each hurdle with grace and an unwavering commitment to embracing life to its fullest in every moment.” The statement further reflected on Mitchell’s belief in the preciousness of each day and the importance of walking life’s journey together, emphasizing his embodiment of love, compassion, humor, inclusivity, and community.

The official Star Trek website also mourned Mitchell’s passing, acknowledging his significant contributions to the franchise. It stated, “StarTrek.com mourns the loss of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, renowned for his portrayals of Klingon characters Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik on Star Trek: Discovery, as well as Aurellio in the series. Additionally, he lent his voice to various characters in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Mitchell, aged 49, passed away on February 24, 2024.” The statement concluded with condolences extended from the entire Star Trek community to Mitchell’s family, friends, loved ones, and fans worldwide.

Beyond his Star Trek endeavors, Mitchell’s acting career spanned numerous notable projects, including his role in Marvel’s Captain Marvel, The Recruit, The Green, and Miracle, among others. Mitchell publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis in August 2018, and by 2019, he had been utilizing a wheelchair.
