Konami has recently unveiled a new addition to the Silent Hill series exclusively for the PS5, titled Silent Hill: The Short Message, and is offering it for free. This first-person horror game serves as an experimental venture developed in collaboration with Hexadrive, a highly skilled and experienced development team, as mentioned on the PlayStation blog.
The decision to release the game for free was intentional from the outset, aiming to maximize accessibility for as many players as possible. Despite the collaboration with Hexadrive, the experimental nature of the title has prompted Konami to make it available to a broad audience without any cost.
Longtime Silent Hill enthusiasts may recall a previous attempt by Konami to introduce a first-person experience in the franchise through a playable teaser for Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hill game several years ago. However, this teaser was subsequently removed from the PlayStation platform, leaving fans disappointed. While there is a lower likelihood of a similar occurrence with Silent Hill: The Short Message, uncertainties about the future persist, and players are encouraged to seize the opportunity to experience the game while it remains accessible.
In addition to the new release, anticipation among Silent Hill fans is high for the rumored Silent Hill 2 remake. Despite Konami acknowledging the project over a year ago, there has been limited information. Recently showcased at the latest State of Play, the remake, currently in development by the Bloober Team, unveiled a new trailer featuring Anita as the protagonist navigating The Villa. The trailer hinted at the absence of visible weapons, with Anita relying on her phone while navigating the environment. A content warning prior to the trailer indicated the inclusion of mature content, including occasional self-harm attempts. As the project progresses, players can anticipate encountering new creatures and engaging in combat within this reimagined Silent Hill 2 experience.
