Approximately five years ago, Nintendo made a groundbreaking announcement regarding the redevelopment of Metroid Prime 4. This revelation took place at E3 in 2017, and later in 2019, Nintendo reiterated their decision to commence anew with the development of the latest installment in the Metroid Prime series. Since then, information about the game has been scarce. On January 25, 2019, Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo’s Senior Managing Executive Officer, expressed regret, stating, “Ever since the announcement, we have not been able to give you an update. Although this is very regrettable, we must let you know that the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series.”
Due to this indefinite delay, the release date for Metroid Prime is currently listed as To Be Announced (TBA). Additionally, there are reports circulating that suggest the next generation of Nintendo consoles is on the horizon. It remains uncertain how Nintendo plans to incorporate Metroid Prime 4 into these upcoming developments. As of now, the game is still in the works for the Nintendo Switch. However, with the imminent arrival of the Switch 2, there is speculation that Metroid Prime 4 may become exclusive to the next-generation Nintendo console, and joint announcements could be in the pipeline.
In a recent video, the YouTube channel SuperMetalDave64 hinted that Nintendo is in the final stages of development for Metroid Prime 4. While there is no official confirmation of the release date, it was revealed that Retro Studios has partnered with the studio Next-Gen Dreams 3D. This collaboration is significant as Next-Gen Dreams 3D has previously contributed to trailers for several popular games. Presently, the studio is reportedly working on a trailer for Metroid Prime 4. Fans, who have anxiously awaited news for almost seven years, can finally anticipate the long-awaited game receiving an official release date, bringing relief to enthusiasts worldwide.
