Monster Hunter Rise Update Sparks User Troubles, Blamed on New DRMMonster Hunter Rise Update Sparks User Troubles, Blamed on New DRM

In a recent development, Capcom rolled out an update for Monster Hunter Rise on the Steam platform, resulting in unforeseen complications for users attempting to play the game on Valve’s Handheld Platform. Although the update successfully eliminated the Denuvo DRM, it introduced a new protective measure called Enigma Protector, causing compatibility issues.

Upon becoming aware of the problem, Capcom promptly issued a notice on Steam, acknowledging the investigation into the issue that prevented the game from running on Steam decks. Despite this, the game’s Steam store page still indicates its verification for the Steam deck, implying full functionality on the device.

The aftermath of the contentious update saw players expressing their dissatisfaction through negative reviews on Monster Hunter Rise’s store page. Consequently, the recent Steam reviews now portray a mixed sentiment. Despite the influx of negative feedback, the overall review score remains positive, with over 55,000 reviews.

Capcom’s alteration to the DRM system was not limited to Monster Hunter Rise. A similar adjustment was made to the Steam Version of Resident Evil: Revelations, introducing the Enigma Protector, which, unfortunately, resulted in performance issues. However, Capcom took corrective action by retracting the update and confirming a re-release once the problems were resolved.

Capcom has recently extended the use of Enigma Protector to several games on Steam, such as Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, and Mega Man Legacy Collection Titles. Contrarily, the Enigma Protector was originally implemented to restrict third-party mods in PC games.

Despite the growing concerns surrounding the Enigma Protector’s inclusion in Monster Hunter Rise and other games, various media outlets have reached out to Capcom for clarification. As of now, the Japanese video game company has neither responded nor provided any clarification during press conferences.
