Netflix Announces Production Start for 'You' Season 5

Netflix announced on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, that production has officially begun for the much-anticipated fifth season of “You,” starring Penn Badgley.

Produced by Berlanti Productions, Alloy Entertainment, and Warner Bros, the series is adapted from Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name.

The announcement of the fifth and final season, eagerly awaited by fans, was made through Netflix’s social media channels. Accompanying the announcement was a photo of Penn Badgley crossing a street in New York City, where the series is set.

The caption of the post reads: “Back to where it all began. The fifth and final season of ‘YOU’ is now in production.”

“You” is a gripping American psychological thriller following the story of Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager turned serial killer, whose twisted romantic relationships drive the narrative.

The debut season premiered in 2018, gaining immense popularity among fans and critics alike, with its gritty portrayal of New York City. The success prompted Warner Bros to swiftly release the second season in 2019. The third season, set in the suburbs of San Francisco, premiered in 2021.

The fourth season was split into two parts, premiering in 2023. It continued to captivate audiences with its dark and complex storyline, as Joe Goldberg returns to New York City with his partner Kate.

Executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W Lo will serve as co-runners for the final season.

Joining the cast for Season 5 are Anna Camp, Griffin Mathews, and Madeline Brewer. While an official premiere date has not been announced, fans can anticipate the series to debut by the end of 2024.
