Directed by Mark Waters, La Dolce Villa is an upcoming Netflix project, adding to the director’s repertoire of acclaimed works such as Mean Girls, Vampire Academy, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. This venture marks Waters’ third collaboration with Netflix, following his debut with the 2021 film He’s All That and the upcoming Rom-Com Mother of The Bride, slated for release in May 2024.

Filming for La Dolce Villa, a Netflix original, commenced on March 11, 2024, with Rome and Italy serving as primary shooting locations. Waters provided an update on the series via an Instagram post in January 2024, sharing his exploration for filming sites. In the post, he reflected on his experience in Tuscany, expressing hope for a more luxurious shoot. While filming began in March 2024, it is scheduled to conclude in May 2024. Therefore, based on this timeline, the film is anticipated to premiere in early 2025.

Plot

As filming has recently begun, the plot details of La Dolce Villa remain undisclosed. However, Netflix has released a synopsis for the series, outlining the story of Eric, a successful businessman who travels to Italy to prevent his dreamy daughter, Olivia, from squandering her life savings on restoring a dilapidated villa she bought for €1. Despite Eric’s intentions, Italy has its own plans, promising beauty, magic, and romance. Notably, the synopsis bears resemblance to the 2020 film Made In Italy, currently available for streaming in the United States.
