Palworld, the Pokemon-inspired shooter game, is set to debut in early access on January 19, according to the latest trailer. From day one, the game will be accessible through a game pass. The initial trailer, unveiled in 2021, garnered attention for its distinctive Pokemon-like creatures, referred to as “pals.” While initially portraying Palworld as a cute and charming version of Pokemon, subsequent revelations suggest a darker side to the game.

The developers at Pocketpair provided surprising responses to frequently asked questions on their Steam page. When asked about the nature of the game, the response was unexpected: “Pals can be used for combat, put to work on farms or factories, sold, or even consumed!” The game offers users the ability to engage in various activities involving pals, including fighting, selling, eating, and exploiting them. The Steam page explicitly states, “Build a factory, place a pal in it, and they’ll keep working as long as they’re fed—until they’re dead, that is.” Another section reveals, “Want to build a pyramid? Put an army of Pals on the job. Don’t worry; there are no labor laws for Pals.” The trailer further accentuates this grim aspect by displaying a pile of pal corpses.

Players can capture over a hundred pals and utilize them to perform tasks. Palworld encompasses features such as base building, crafting, dungeons, enemy factions, giant Pal bosses, and mounts. Initially accommodating up to 32 players in multiplayer mode, the player-versus-player feature will be introduced later. Pocketpair has also assured players that additional types of pals will be incorporated into the game post-launch.
