Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata is currently under tight security by the Mumbai Police following a threat call. The ominous call, which suggested a grim fate similar to the tragic car crash that claimed the life of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry on September 4, 2022, came from an unidentified individual.

Upon investigation, authorities traced the call to a person with a Master of Business Administration degree from Pune and a diagnosed case of schizophrenia. The individual was eventually located in Karnataka, thanks to the cooperation of telecom and technical service companies.

Upon reaching the caller’s residence, law enforcement discovered that the individual had been missing for five days, with the absence reported by their spouse. A preliminary inquiry unveiled the caller’s schizophrenia diagnosis. Considering the mental health condition, authorities chose not to pursue legal action, even after the initial threat.

Subsequently, when the police reached the accused’s residence in the Bhosari district of Pune, they found that the individual had vanished. Tracking the IP address led them to Karnataka. A review of the person’s medical history indicated symptoms of schizophrenia, contributing to heightened anxiety. Pune police apprehended the individual and informed the family that phone usage should be restricted.

The Mumbai Police have encountered numerous threats against affluent individuals, often discovering that the callers suffer from schizophrenia.

The threat against Ratan Tata prompted an immediate response from the Mumbai Police, who swiftly launched an investigation. One team focused on the caller, while another ensured the safety of Ratan Tata. With assistance from a telephone provider and technical support, the police located the caller in Karnataka, ultimately discovering their residence in Pune.

After five days of searching, the police identified the caller at their Pune flat, prompted by a complaint filed by the spouse at the Bhosari police station. Interrogation of the caller’s family revealed a history of schizophrenia, with the individual clandestinely using the phone to make threats to Ratan Tata after obtaining it. Due to the caller’s mental health condition, legal charges were not pursued. The caller claimed an engineering background and an MBA in finance.

Ratan Tata’s safety was ensured by the Mumbai crime branch, effectively resolving the issue. This incident underscores the critical importance of raising awareness about mental health and providing support to those grappling with mental health challenges. The caller’s family informed the police about their history of schizophrenia, leading authorities to refrain from legal action based on the individual’s mental health background, which included an engineering and MBA finance education.
