Samsung Extends Galaxy AI Features to Older Devices: One UI 6.1 Update

Samsung Electronics has announced a significant update for some of its older phones and tablets, bringing the newly unveiled Galaxy AI features via a One UI 6.1 update. Initially introduced alongside the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy AI feature was limited to the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra. However, Samsung is extending this functionality to include older models such as the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series, with the update slated to roll out by the end of March.

Earlier this month, Samsung introduced the Google Gemini-powered Galaxy AI feature across its device lineup, including popular wearables like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Buds 2, and Galaxy Buds FE. Anticipation surrounds the forthcoming One UI 6.1 update, which is poised to redefine the landscape of mobile AI by seamlessly integrating on-device and cloud-based AI technologies.

TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed the company’s vision for Galaxy AI, stating, “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible.” Roh further emphasized the ongoing commitment to innovation, adding, “This marks just the start of Galaxy AI, as we aim to extend this experience to more than 100 million Galaxy users by the end of 2024, while continually innovating to unlock the boundless potential of mobile AI.”

Leading up to the update rollout, Samsung Galaxy users can anticipate a host of AI-powered features tailored to specific models. Among these capabilities, Galaxy AI will enable users to adjust message tones and facilitate real-time translations across 13 languages, including live voice translations for phone calls. Additionally, users can enjoy custom-generated wallpapers and advanced generative editing tools for photos, allowing devices to autonomously resize and reposition objects within images for optimal composition.

This update represents a significant stride in Samsung’s commitment to enhancing user experiences and leveraging the transformative potential of AI technology in the mobile realm.
