The prestigious five-day UK music extravaganza, Glastonbury Festival, has extended a groundbreaking invitation to the Korean sensation Seventeen to headline its 2024 editions, marking a historic moment for the K-Pop ensemble, according to reports from a reputable media outlet.
Prior to Seventeen’s scheduled debut at the 2024 event, no K-pop ensemble had been chosen to grace the iconic stage of Glastonbury, which has been a cornerstone of the Western music scene since its inception in 1970.
The K-pop phenomenon is slated to join a lineup of esteemed Western artists, including Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, LCD Soundsystem, and PJ Harvey, among others. The highly anticipated event is scheduled to unfold from June 26th to June 30th, 2024, with an expected attendance of over 200,000 festival-goers.
Following their appearance at Glastonbury, the group is set to captivate audiences at the Lollapalooza festival in Berlin in September 2024.
Seventeen’s inclusion in a European festival lineup is yet another testament to the group’s global dominance in the music industry. Additionally, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) highlighted in a statement that four of the top-selling acts of 2023 hailed from South Korea.
What is Glastonbury?
Originally known as the Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts, Glastonbury Festival is a contemporary performing arts extravaganza held annually in England during the summer season. Established on September 19, 1970, by Michael Eavis, the festival has evolved into a cultural phenomenon, attracting over 200,000 attendees each year. Rooted in hippie culture and the free festival movement, it stands as one of Britain’s largest cultural events.
