Spike Lee and Ice Spice Team Up for 'High and Low' Film Project

Grammy-nominated American rapper Ice Spice is poised to make her mark in Hollywood, according to an exclusive report from Variety. The 24-year-old rapper is set to collaborate with the acclaimed Oscar and Emmy-award-winning director Spike Lee.

Lee’s latest project, titled “High and Low,” boasts the participation of two-time Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington. The film serves as an English reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 masterpiece, “High and Low.” Additionally, the casting of Jeffrey Wright and Ilfenesh Hadera has already been confirmed for the film.

Ice Spice is said to have a cameo role in the movie, with filming already underway. A recent photo posted by Apple Original Films on X (formerly Twitter) depicts Spike Lee and Denzel Washington signaling the number five with their hands, hinting at their collaboration for the fifth time. Their previous works together include “He Got Game” (1998), “Malcolm X” (1992), and “Mo’ Better Blues” (1990), with their last joint project being “Inside Man” in 2006.

While the specifics of Ice Spice’s character in the film remain undisclosed, her transition into the realm of cinema is eagerly anticipated. Alongside her foray into acting, her debut album, “Y2K,” is scheduled for release in 2024.

Akira Kurosawa’s original crime thriller drew inspiration from Ed McBain’s novel “King’s Ransom” (1959), revolving around a wealthy man faced with a moral dilemma: to prioritize a significant corporate acquisition or to rescue a kidnapped child. The film received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film.

“High and Low” is being produced by A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures, with Spike Lee and Alan Fox credited for the screenplay.
