The Day Before: Fntastic's Highly Controversial Game Officially Declared Defunct

The Day Before has officially ceased its operations, shutting down its servers amidst a flurry of controversies. This zombie survival game faced a tumultuous launch, accompanied by a barrage of negative reviews. Criticisms ranged from accusations of false advertising to allegations of scamming players. Despite these challenges, there are reports that the CEOs are actively engaged in crafting a new gaming venture. The original iteration of the game is now rendered completely unplayable, prompting efforts to create an unofficial offline version for interested players.

Priced at $40, The Day Before made its debut on December 7, 2023. On December 11, Fntastic Studio, the game’s developer, made a public announcement on platform X, disclosing the closure of Fntastic Studio due to financial failure. The statement indicated that all incoming funds were being allocated towards settling debts with partners. Subsequently, on January 22, the game’s publisher, Mytona, officially terminated the game’s servers.

Following the influx of negative reviews, Mytona issued apologies to customers and assured that any player seeking a refund would receive one automatically. In an official statement, Mytona expressed regret over the game’s failure to meet player expectations and announced collaboration with Steam to facilitate refunds. The statement also mentioned ongoing discussions with Fntastic regarding the game’s future. Strikingly, the current website of Mytona makes no mention of The Day Before in its list of game titles.

The Day Before had garnered significant attention, ranking among the most wishlisted titles on Steam in 2023. However, the developers’ decision to involve volunteers in the project’s development sparked controversy, with accusations of utilizing unpaid contributors instead of hiring professional developers. Additionally, allegations surfaced that the game trailers were plagiarized from popular titles such as Call of Duty and The Last of Us.
