Tribute to Barbara Baldavin: Actress of Star Trek Fame Dies at 85

Actress Barbara Baldavin, known for her roles in both the original Star Trek series and the medical drama ‘Medical Center,’ has passed away at the age of 85. Her son, Marc D’Agosta, confirmed to THR that Baldavin died on Sunday at her residence in Manhattan Beach, California, following complications from congestive heart failure.

Baldavin’s contributions to television were notable, with her memorable portrayal of Nurse Holmby in ‘Medical Center’ and her appearances in various other shows. Additionally, she made significant contributions behind the scenes as a casting director.

In Star Trek: The Original Series, Baldavin left a lasting impression with her performances in three episodes. In the first season, she notably played Officer Angela Martine, whose wedding to Robert Tomilson coincided with a Romulan attack in the 14th and 15th episodes. Furthermore, she appeared in the series finale of the third season as Lieutenant Lisa, the communications officer.

Interestingly, Baldavin’s connection to Star Trek extended beyond her acting roles; she met her husband, Joseph D’Agosta, who was the casting director for the series, on set. Though the show was initially canceled after three seasons, it eventually gained a devoted fanbase and evolved into the massive franchise it is today.

Aside from her work in Star Trek and ‘Medical Center,’ Baldavin’s career encompassed a range of guest appearances in popular television shows such as Adam-12, Columbo, McMillan & Wife, and Charlie’s Angels, among others. She also lent her talents to casting director roles in TV shows like Strike Force and Finder of Lost Loves, as well as films including Satan’s Princess and Fallen Arches.
