Lionsgate Unveils Animated Version of 'Twilight,' Plans TV Adaptation for 'John Wick'

Lionsgate has made significant announcements regarding the expansion of two of its biggest movie franchises, John Wick and Twilight. At the Morgan Stanley media conference, Michael Burns, the company’s Vice Chairman, disclosed these updates to the press, eliciting much excitement from fans of both franchises.

Regarding the Twilight franchise, Burns revealed plans for a fresh perspective through animation. This news stirred intense emotions among followers of Edward and Bella’s saga.

Additionally, Burns disclosed that the John Wick franchise will transition to the realm of television, promising to maintain its signature action-packed narrative albeit on a smaller screen. Across the four films released from 2014 to 2023, Keanu Reeves captivated audiences with his portrayal of the titular character, a legendary action hero reluctantly pulled back into the criminal underworld.

During the press conference, Burns remarked, as reported by Deadline:

“We’re delving into the Twilight series with an animated adaptation, and I expect there to be significant interest in this project.”

Speaking on the John Wick adaptation, Burns commented:

“We plan to adapt one of our cherished action franchises starring Keanu Reeves into a television series.”

In April 2023, reports surfaced about a TV adaptation of the Twilight series in its early development stages. The newly announced animated series draws inspiration from Stephenie Meyer’s book series, which was previously adapted into a successful film franchise collectively known as “The Twilight Saga.” Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, the film series amassed over $5 billion worldwide.

Furthermore, the decision to adapt John Wick for television follows the premiere of its prequel and limited series, “The Continental: From the World of John Wick,” which debuted on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video in September 2023. Notably, the franchise, headlined by Keanu Reeves, has garnered critical acclaim and grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
